Tigger Speaks Up

While interviewing all these kids and young adults who have done long-term traveling, I figured it was only fair, and might be interesting, to interview Tigger.  He is 9 years old and has never been out of the country, although he has visited several states within America so isn’t a complete newbie when it comes to travel. In typical fashion for someone his age, the answers are pretty succint, but really is there that much more that needs to be said? The answers you read are 100% his words. Just like with M’s interview, this deserves a serious cuteness warning.

What did you think when your dad first told you about his idea for the trip?

I liked it.

Were you afraid at all?

No.

What are you looking forward to the most?

Going to Thailand because it’s awesome!

How do you know Thailand is awesome?

Because I saw a video, and it was awesome!

What do you think about spending 2 or so years traveling through Central & South America?

It interests me because it’s going to be pretty cool. There will be jungles and giant spiders.

Is there anything you don’t like about the idea of this trip?

That I’ll have to leave my friends behind, and we have do a bunch of cleaning.

How do you deal with leaving friends behind?

I just spend a lot of time with them. I’ll have pics to remind me of them.

What activity are you most excited about doing while traveling?

Scuba diving!

What do you like about scuba diving?

You get to see all the fish, sharks. Maybe probably I’ll see tiger sharks.

What’s been the hardest part about getting ready to leave?

Cleaning! [Dad pretty much agrees!]

What do your friends think about your trip?

They’re really happy for me. Some are jealous.

How do you feel about being homeschooled instead of going to regular school?

A little bit happy but worried I might get lonely.  [I thought this was interesting because he has been begging me to homeschool him for about 2 years now.]

  1. Hmmm – I consider a trip a success when I don’t see a big spider!  Guess I have lost the kid in me!  Great interview and thanks for sharing.

And yep, pre-travel cleaning definitely sucks!

  6. Love, love, LOVE the part about seeing giant spiders!

    • Yeah, I’m a bit with him on that. I still remember walking through a big web between trees and brushing a huge green spider out of my hair in the woods in Chiapas. *shudder*

  7. He is a cutie pie! Love that little wrinkled nose! He’s going to have such an experience! Giant spiders and all! I read that you weren’t packing a bunch of books. Wonder if a Kindle would be helpful. Wouldn’t take up very much room. Just a thought! Two days will be here before you know it! Good times ahead!

  9. Tigger is adorable! He seems like he’s all boy. It’s great that he’s being honest about how he feels about the upcoming trip. Sure he’ll get lonesome at times on the road but that’s the norm. He’ll have a blast!

    • Oh yes, he’s definitely ALL boy!
