Paris for Parents (and kids!)

Paris has a reputation for being the perfect destination for romancing couples, but that’s selling the city short because Paris is truly for everyone, including your kids. If you’re travelling with your family, Disneyland Paris is bound to be a suggested stop on the itinerary, but don’t think that’s your only option. Paris is wonderfully family friendly, so for those parents looking for activities a little off the beaten track, here are a few suggestions:

Les Catacombes

It may seem like an odd choice, but believe it or not the catacombs of Paris are a popular choice for kids visiting the city. The spooky passages are captivating with a long, interesting history. Arrive early if you want to avoid long queues.

Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature

A visit to this city wouldn’t be a Paris break without visiting a museum or two, and the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature holds a huge taxidermy collection brought to Paris by noblemen questing to Africa. There are interactive displays and enough exotic animals to keep the kids entertained.

Jardin d’Acclimatation

If you want to get outside, the Jardin d’Acclimatation in Boulogne offers pony rides, acrobatic obstacle courses and rides down the river. There’s an aviary with over 200 birds and a livestock farm. With so many attractions and activities on offer, this park makes an ideal outdoor option for the whole family.

Musée Gourmet du Chocolat

If you’ve ever read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, then this museum is for you. You can delve into the history of chocolate, watch a demonstration on how chocolate is made, and end your tour in a gift shop filled with chocolate treats. This is a marvelous way to spend an afternoon in Paris, especially if it’s a rainy day.

Puppet Shows

The puppet shows in Paris are a wonderful way to get your kids into the swing of the city and taste a little Parisian culture. The shows are all performed in French, but as the stories are all familiar fairy tales they’re very accessible and enormously entertaining. Held in Luxembourg or Buttes Chaumont, the shows are suitable for 2- to 8-year-olds and are held all year round.

You don’t have to make a beeline straight for Disneyland Paris to entertain the kids the minute you set foot in the city. Paris has plenty to offer. The only question is, how much fun can you handle?!
