Coldest months, hottest spots: find your winter sun!

—This post provided by Antler

We’re sorry to break it to you but, if you hadn’t already noticed, it’s that time of year again; the horrible British weather has reared its ugly head and we’re left with the delightful combination of torrential rain and snowy blizzards. Lovely. But, before you completely resign yourself to evening after evening sitting on the couch watching every soap opera imaginable, we have a solution for you. Why not pack your lightweight suitcases and take to the skies? Let’s face it, the only way you’re going to see some sunshine over the next few months is if you find it elsewhere, so treat yourself to some winter sun!

Egypt

Famous for its rich cultural heritage, Egypt is ideal for those looking to catch rays and escape from the miserable weather. Marsa Alam is well known for its stunning beaches, so if you’re looking for the best place to just relax and unwind, here would be perfect. However, the beauty of Egypt is that there’s so much to discover! Obviously, there are the Giza Pyramids, a definite must-see if you do decide to travel to the country. And once you’ve finished admiring this “Wonder of the World”, why not cruise along the River Nile? A cruise down one of the longest rivers of the world, with the chance to drink in many historical sites along the way sounds like the perfect winter escape.

Morocco

For many, Morocco is considered as the ultimate winter hotspot. We guarantee that if the gorgeous sunshine isn’t enough to brighten up your day, then the colourful and vibrant social atmosphere certainly will be. But where to start? First you could take a trip to Fes. As the oldest city in Morocco, Fes is acknowledged as the spiritual heart of the country. With street after street filled with quaint market stalls and charming merchants, you’ll soon find yourself falling in love with the place. And once you’ve finished here, you could always experience Marrakech, a city renowned for its exoticism and incredible energy. Looking to get rid of those winter blues? Then Morocco could be your answer!

Tunisia

An increasingly popular tourist destination, Tunisia is ideal for those searching for some cultural activities to keep them occupied; as well as the sun! Home to some of the most fascinating Roman ruins, this city is much more than just breathtaking beaches. Unlike other areas of the Maghreb, Tunisia is recognised for its diversity and cosmopolitan lifestyle, something which is very much embraced and enjoyed by tourists. Take architecture for example; on the one hand you could explore the history of the Fort of Ghar El Melh, or alternatively you could immerse yourself into the rhythm of Tunisian life and witness the buildings of the Place de la Victoire. What more could you ask for?
