I can easily imagine Rome would be a rude awakening after those other places. Thankfully, we didn’t experience the harassment you did. It can really ruin a place.

I think the problem was that I visited Rome after the beauty and tranquility of Venice, Florence and Verona. Rome was the only place in Italy I experienced street harassment, and my hostel was HORRIBLE. In retrospect it’s so funny, but at the time I was walking to the train station thinking, “Good grief, get me out of here.” LOL

I’m glad you enjoyed the city – I hope you go back again and write more. Maybe one day I’ll revisit it, too.

If you have a limited amount of time, a guide is a great way of maximizing how much you can see for sure.

It’s one of my favourite cities and last time I was there I had some locals show me around the lesser visited spots so I can understand why you liked having a guide with you. Rome is definitely one of those cities where it helps having someone to help you out.

It is amazing to walk among the mix of ancient and new. One of my favorite things about Europe. Definitely a city worth visiting again and spending more time in. Actually, I just need more time in Italy period.

Yes, I’d recommend getting back when you get the chance, but this sure was a great start. Beautiful pics, too, Talon! And it’s really overpowering to walk through ruins that are so old and have so much history, isn’t it?

The Spanish Steps are a lot of fun . . . . so great for people-watching . . .
