Happy Father’s Day to you! It always breaks my heart to read about the horrible things in your past, but I am so incredibly happy you were able to see all of it for what it was and make sure to go the opposite way. So many people tend to follow in their parents’ footsteps – those who have been abused become abusers, those who have been harshly criticized become critical. But you Became the opposite of your experiences, became a better, stronger person for it, and you’re raising your son to be an incredible man someday. You’re both so lucky to have each other.

I definitely encourage my kids to follow their own paths, be kind, and be comfortable with who they are while showing love for others. I also strongly agree with your statement that we can never appreciate what our parents did for us until we become parents. Becoming a parent completely changed my outlook on my own parents.
