Monday photo–Chichen Itza

Just over a year ago we visited the famous Chichen Itza ruins outside of Valladolid, Mexico.  The constructions are really quite amazing when you consider the lack of technology compared to today.  I’ll be writing more about our visit there, along with tips you won’t want to miss if you’re planning on going there, but for now I wanted to share this photo.  It’s one of my favorites from our visit because it’s a view you don’t often see.  So many pictures only focus on the main temple while there are many other incredible structures and things to see there.

  1. Nifty, I’ve seen some ruins in Mexico but haven’t made it to Chichen Itza yet. Trying to figure out how these things were constructed hundreds of years ago does boggle the mind.

    • Most definitely! This one is quite cool, too, because it does a special trick during the vernal and autumnal equinoxes. How they figured that all out is quite interesting. I’m going to be writing about it more in the next week or so. It’s quite a fascinating place. I really marvel at the Mayan and Incan civilizations and their technology.
