I really love the gardens. Every time I visit the place I bring some walnuts. There are a lot of squirrels in the park and they are so friendly that they eat from your hand.

Hi Talon, thanks for sharing your story and good advice! I always take my kids to Schonbrunn when we visit my hometown Vienna. Their favourite is the zoo, followed by quadrille dancing at the Kindermuseum. Few people know that Schonbrunn has a public swimming pool on the grounds, hidden away from the main site. We’ll go there next summer.

I’ve been to the gardens at Schönbrunn several times, but have never paid to enter the palace itself. I may have to reconsider when I’m next in Vienna!

We had much the same experience as you. We loved the grounds and the Christmas market there (way less packed which was a nice change), but thought the Palace itself was rather plain (I don’t even think we bothered writing about it). Safe travels!
