In reply to Steph (@ 20 Years Hence). We avoided Hoi An because everyone kept recommending it. When I asked why, they said things about restaurants and shopping. That told me enough right there. That sounds funny about Mui Ne!

I’ve no doubt that Nha Trang is touristy (I can’t say for sure, but we went to Mui Ne which I’m thinking is pretty similar), but there’s no way it can be worse than Hoi An. Whenever people say Hoi An is their favorite city in Vietnam, I take that to mean that they didn’t really like Vietnam, because that’s pretty much like saying that Disney World is your favorite place in the United States. It’s not without its charms, but I cannot think of a place that was less like the rest of the country!

Also, Mui Ne is filled with Russian as well. The strip that runs along the coast is very much divided into “local Vietnamese”, Western Tourists, and Russian Tourists sections. It was funny to watch the signs change so dramatically as we strolled along!

Mangosteens are so incredibly good! I was in seventh heaven. They had the nice big ones, too.

The price was great especially for the service. As a diver and a professional, I dislike being in large groups. Much prefer a small group. Even though it kind of sucks when you’re guiding since you’re usually paid per person.

It is pretty laidback. Even though it’s pretty touristy, it isn’t extremely annoying like some heavily touristed areas. We were there at the end of low season. I loved that the beaches were uncrowded.

Aww we love nudibranch creatures! They are way cool! Have yet to get to Vietnam, but this sounds like a laid back little spot. Putting this in my bookmarks. I really appreciate when dive groups are small as well. You got a great deal on the diving wow! That is hella cheap. And mangosteens are my favorite fruit behind actual magoes. Can’t decide which ones I love more. I found a jar of them at the Whole Foods in Florida and I flipped out 🙂
