It is interesting how people have different opinions on places like Steph above we also weren’t a fan of Langkawi and probably would never return. We even wrote a post why we didn’t like Langkawi.

In reply to Steph (@ 20 Years Hence). Normally the touted places are underwhelming anywhere in my experience. LOL But, yes, even more so here. Except for the cable car. Langkawi isn't an island you go to for tons of touristic things to do. I didn't find it to be that overpriced, but I also didn't spend time in touristy areas. The restaurants in Pantai Cenang were definitely overpriced. It is spread out which is why I recommend people rent a car or something. The lack of public transportation is a definite downside.

I have to say, although we really enjoyed our time in Malaysia, ending it in Langkawi was a real low note as it was by far our least favorite place in the entire country. For us, we felt it was overpriced, really spread out with little to do (and the things that are normally “touted” were rather underwhelming). I’d happily return to Malaysia, but I can’t ever see returning to Langkawi.

In reply to RaW | Ramble and Wander. WOW! That's quite the time gap, especially since you live in KL! Definitely do the cable car. The little "village" at the base is incredibly cheesy, but the ride is so worth the stunning views.
