All great advice, but the part about deserving to be happy is what struck a chord with me. We had a difficult family situation we left behind when we began traveling. We needed to get a way to break a destructive cycle of enabling someone who was determined to self-destruct. The greatest gift we received as we contemplated traveling was hearing a counseling professional tell us “You deserve this. . . I give you permission to take this trip and have a happy life”.
