When we first arrived in South America, we figured we’d spend quite a bit of time exploring and living in the various countries. While we’ve enjoyed Colombia and especially Ecuador, we decided we were ready for a big change, and so the search began.
I found some very good airfares from Colombia to Spain this summer. That led to some very exciting possibilities, i.e., spending my birthday in Paris, which is also Bastille Day in France, so the whole country would be celebrating my birthday (a dream since I was about 8 years old). Once you’re in Europe, it’s fairly inexpensive to get to places like parts of Africa and Asia.
We seriously considered doing that; however, we’ve also really been missing Cozumel. As we’ve traveled we’ve been paying attention to places we’d like to probably live more long term, use as a base for continuing travels, etc., and Cozumel has remained at the top of our list.

In discussing things we decided that before we left this side of the planet it would be a good idea to go spend more time in Cozumel to see if it should retain its spot in the top tier since we’ve only spent about 1-1/2 months there, and we missed the rainy season. So we’re giving it a go, and on the 28th of June we’ll be leaving Peru and going back to Cozumel where we plan on staying for at least 4-6 months before heading over to Europe for the next phase of our nomadic adventure. Thinking Chrismakah in Italy or France perhaps. We’ll just have to see as it gets closer.
While we’re in Cozumel I’m going to check to see if there are some potential business opportunities I can get involved with as well, and we’re both really looking forward to getting back into the water and returning to a place that felt so much like home. And as luck would have it, another traveling family we spent time with on Utila is going to be there, too, so we’ll have even more friends to hang out with which is especially nice.

The whole itinerary sounds wonderful. I love Cozumel, although I’ve only spent a few days here and there, beautiful beaches, snorkeling/diving, relaxing. It is amazing how you manage a floating home and seem so organized and together. Most people stress over planning a week vacation down the shore. Birthday in Paris, on Bastille Day, such a great dream, now to be reality. Vive la France! Good luck and happy trails. Look forward to hearing about the next part of your life journey.

Thank you, Neda. I think it’s a lot easier when you wear your home on your back and in your heart. I’m thinking next year might be the year for Paris on my birthday, but we’ll just have to see how things go. It’s fun having a world of possibilities open to us.

Isn’t that the truth! And the thing about many of the beaches is most of them are tourist free so if you going during the week you have the whole entire sandy stretch to yourself.

I totally love how you two are having your adventure of travel! You are not rushed like most others seem to be. So many others are spending a week here or a month there and do not ever really get to know the country but you are spending months at a time in a single place. I love it!
Planting roots for a bit to see what grows is a fantastic way to see the world, its people and places, IMHO. Most people traveling don’t have the time or money to be able to stay put in one place so I am sure you are envied by many, many people!

We definitely couldn’t do it if I wasn’t able to work online, but I think it’s something that almost anyone can do if they really want to. Eventually I imagine we’ll find a place to use as a home “base” while we continue to travel, but I don’t know. I really enjoy the freedom of not having many possessions and being able to just up and go whenever we’re ready. To me it’s true freedom.

Oh how cool! We’ll see about Europe in the holidays. If we’re enjoying Cozumel too much still, or I get involved in an outstanding business opportunity, we may be there longer. One of the benefits of having no itinerary is the extreme flexibility we have.

I’ve only been to Cozumel once, for a brief period of time, so my experience was hearing English around me and seeing people pay with dollars. I look forward to reading about what else is out there, away from the main areas. Good luck and enjoy!
